+ While on vacation for Memorial Day I was able to go for a run with my cousin.  (so glad that I brought my running stuff!)
We ran/walked about 3 miles. The scenery was breathtaking and we saw a deer while on our run!
So glad that I had a running buddy for this!

+ Technology failed me today.
After 2 minutes of running, my heart rate monitor decided that it wasn’t going to work at all.  It kept saying that my HR was 00 (an eerie thing when you’re running from zombies, OH EM GEE I must be infected!) and then a message popped up telling me to “check my heart rate monitor.”  I’m pretty sure the battery in the strap is dead.  Guess I’ve got to fork over some money to get that fixed.  The watch kept track of the total time accurately, or so I hope!
I accidentally hit the pause button on Zombies Run.  (Spoiler Alert if you’re going to get the app!)  I didn’t think anything of the lack of story line between songs because the lady I was “running with” had shut off her transmitter due to her incessant coughing worrying the guy back at base. So I thought the lack of story was part of the game; I thought her coughing meant she was going to turn into a zom and that I would get attacked during the run unexpectedly.  That didn’t happen.  Turns out that I had hit the pause button for a full 8 minutes.  That’s 8 minutes of running without collecting items.  An extra 8 minutes of running unaccounted for in my mileage (which makes my pace probably appear slower than it actually was). Being 8 minutes more tired when the pack of zoms had me surrounded.  Oh yeah another thing, I’m really good at running into the zombies every single time I’m running UP a hill.  Grrr
I got back from my run and wanted to do Ab Ripper X, upload my pics, and make a blog entry immediately.   NOPE.  My macbook was dead and my charger was broken.  I had to go the the apple store to get it replaced.  Luckily it had fraying/adapter strain which made me eligible for a free replacement charger.  YES!  $61 dollars I didn’t have to spend.   So I didn’t get yesterdays Ab Ripper X done today … so I’m going to tack it onto the end of another workout this week.

I’m EXHAUSTED.  I did so so much running around today.  I also got a decent sunburn on my shoulders/back from my sister’s soccer game.  BAD vicky.

Pretty good day, everything technology related put aside! I ran for a full 45 minutes straight!! I probably didn’t reach 4 miles, but I was pretty dang close, and I would have aimed for that if my milage tracker didn’t get paused.

+ Exercise:  Zombies, Run!  Second time running with the app. I was feeling sore from doing Ripped in 30 the past two days so I took it real slow.  I also turned zombie chases off for this one because I just wanted some steady cardio.  I wasn’t happy with my running performance.  A month ago I ran three straight miles with this thing and felt awesome.  I really struggled this time, and my heart rate was flirting with it’s max almost the whole time.  no bueno.
BUT I WENT OUT AND DID IT.

Zombies Run App

  • This was a large part of the reason I was able to run 5k without stopping to take any walking breaks just now.
  • You don’t want to stop running when there are zombies in the area.
  • The beeping sound when zombies are gaining on you is a great way to mix in some HIIT.
  • Muse, The White Stripes, Against Me, and more Muse … is the BEST possible playlist for a zombie apocalypse.
  • I think I have a crush on the narrator and his british accent. I feel bad that he lost his girl to the zombies.  I wish he knew that I was such a cool girl and that it could be worked into the story line some how.

Exercise: 3.09 miles in 34:26, 513 calories burned

Max O’Hartford 5k!

Today I PR-ed by over a minute!

32:23 is my new record! (last year my time was 33:30!)

I had an ipod malfunction right before the race … and so my little sister let me use hers and opted to run without music.  She’s the best!

I can’t wait to run a sub-30 minute mile!!

Exif Today I swam 200 yards, biked 5.5 miles and ran 1.5 miles.   I am an iron dawg triathlete!!
I definitely want to do this again next year … but without having hiked 6 miles in slushy snow the day before …
So I started to get really nervous before the race because after looking around I noticed that everyone there was in wicked good shape.  But after talking with a couple of the girls in my heat, my nerves were calmed a little.
When we had our race briefing … I got some HORRIBLE news.  They weren’t going to allow people to listen to music this year.  Um …. what?  I’ve almost never run without music … so I wasn’t happy and was kind of freaking out after getting this news.  I also had wanted the music for biking… I had my playlists set and everything.
I ran really well for me … I averaged a 9 minute 45 second mile.  Swimming was pretty horrendous.  Because I was the last to finish running and in the first group to go swimming, I didn’t get much of a rest during the transition as some of the other people did.   I also had a goggle malfunction which resulted in me just taking them off.  Not going to lie … there was some doggie paddling during that swim.  whoops.   The biking also wasn’t my personal best … my legs were done by this point.  So I had fun with it, talked with my coworkers and just finished.
I came in SECOND to last.  I really thought I was going to come in dead last so this is pretty cool.  And considering it was a super small event (only 35 people) with a bunch of super athletic peeps.  I’m proud of myself.

I had fun.  I feel great.  I am a triathlete.

next stop …  summiting Mt. Washington.  3/25/12

+ Workout 12 of 20: Full Triathlon Practice
Bike: 5.5 miles,  the bike I was on must have been broken because pedaling faster didn’t make the miles go faster. Plus the girl on the bike next to me was pedaling a lot slower but she was making better time. I’ve done this distance a few times before and it usually takes around 21-22 minutes, so I stopped biking after 23 minutes even though the mileage didn’t say 5.5
Run: The run was awesome.  I was really happy with my pace.  Not much more to say.
Swim:  No real idea on an exact time, it’s hard to say.  I’m not a very fast swimmer, plus I forgot my swim cap and goggles.  I’m pretty sure I was averaging around 30 seconds per lap? I could be wrong though …  I ended up swimming for around 20 minutes, with a lot of breaks in between.
This mini triathlon is totally do-able next weekend.  woooo! :D
